chicago airport.
gotta have breakfast. tried to fight it.
another $10 but it is breakfast tacos and they do look fantastic so i'll give that a pass and that yogurt i bought last night was simply not enough. word of the moment has to be patience.
this is a country hyped up on delivery, speed and timing. and patience is replaced with annoyance easily. that said, the one thing i like about america as a tourist is that we feel like royalty because the level of service is light years ahead of us back home.
in fact, i sometimes wonder if we are going backwards - it totally makes sense why things like gowalla and foursquare, facebook places loyalty rewards, groupon work here more so than the uk.
we need to know what service and loyalty looks like on a daily basis before we can start to reproduce that in the digital realm - of course do not get me wrong here we have some fantastic eating and food places in nottingham that understand that service (antenna springs to mind) but they are rare - even antenna could do to progress into exploring loyalty for it's members for it to succeed in the year to come.
and what's the deal with wifi still after all these years in the states? - is it that they are locked down by the airport by people like boingo being the exclusive provider? - they should look at speaking to a bunch of restaurants to give their clients 15 minutes to check in with gowalla and other applications so they can track customers, give loyalty and provide that stop of connection point.
pumped up for this roadtrip, discussing a bunch of topics (especially in my mind about consumption and weather conditions, storms ) about money, rebuilding and re-construction and rebuilding.
it's also for me the only way to really make a point about this - we are a global community, we have a cause and effect on every human being on this planet. what we do everyday echoes into our human eternity.
helping to tidy, move stuff. arrange things, communicate the frustration, pain and attitude on the ground of how 'a person deals' with an event like this i think is important to not just COVER the situation on the ground but capture - to make an informed multi level piece with audio, video and pictures - stories resonate with people.
if they are focused and packaged in the right way it can become an archive to look back on. that's my aim. rewiring, rewriting and addressing the balance of what my everyday life can be a tough challenge because we need transport, food and housing - all of those i'm looking at and making those little micro adjustments bit by bit and documenting that discovery as i do.
it's darn hot outside.
