playing around with flash media live encoder v3.1

i started playing around with the adobe flash media live encoder this morning. i had no intention of doing so but i just kinda got dragged into it because of bambuser having an iphone4 contest for a free unlocked sim phone

that would be a nice christmas present for me in the new year so i just changed a few bits on my blog this morning and i'm going to leave this stream up for the next week or so. i'm going to be working christmas anyway so i might as well stream it all out and test how good this encoding platform is anyway now that it works.

some things i noted and thought about while using it..

multi stream support - offer different streams of bandwidth
able to limit by duration saved local files (so 1hr for instance)
using camtwist and my quickcam c910 hd in 720p
no way to set the title of the stream
wondered if camtwist had shot time delay
wish bambuser had twitter repeat stream updater

overall i'm glad that the mac version of the encoder is now working. i can see this installed on a mac mini serving up time cycling camtwist shots of different logitech HD cameras. i'm working towards that anyway. ..

pcmupdate | ep o6 | oct was crazy and nov more of the same!

with cj feeling better than she was last week we finally managed to get another update done in the studio - if you noticed the framerate to be suffering on this that's because my poor mac pro first revision is struggling with writing away big files locally which we need to do as a backup. we are looking to change the harddrive to ssd so we can write away bigger files in real time without it being such an overhead on the cpu.

all those things take time when your studio is on a budget! :)

just in time for the fibrecamp studio and youtube streaming.

I'm not really sure we are geared up for something like youtube streaming live just yet but certainly as the shows expand we will be. the timing of it could not have been better. web studios for the win.

'social media since 1864'

as an early adopter/adapter and being a tsunami digital wave surfer in this space bring about many benefits.

the ability to call on the social grid, the matrix of interconnected opinion and delve into what was a wasteland of previous network connections (that would eventually form solid relationships later on) i have found this to be a primary driver for my passion for this project and the fibre studio.

we have been blessed by great feedback, upbeat and positive people with very generous donations to space, connectivity and ultimately, coffee. the studio is really gathering pace now and we are pleased as punch - behind the scenes we have been working with wistia to get some of the distribution network going and making sure that the feeds out to itunes and other places are solid and so that we do not have to spend too much time maintaining those - we can literally interview and record content knowing that it is getting spread out to the wider world. we are also looking at video SEO. a brand new area for the team.

while we have a vision for the local nottingham community we also see that the reach of the fibrecamp style of approach to reinvigorating local community is hugely valuable for all areas around the country and it is our ultimate goal over the coming years to see fibrecamp style studios within ten minutes of train stations across the country - a coffeeshop style drop in centre for media output.
