we like the livingroom.

super friendly staff, nice food and great selection of wines - they also have this really nice back area where we want to do our courses about social media.  i'm going to do a few instructional video freebies first as a give away before we do them thou to get people in the mood.

ruth sent me over the menus for christmas so i thought i would throw them up here for you to take a look at.  thanks for the little taster session last night.

highlights were the soup and the mini chicken kebabs for me.

the studio is getting a short back and sides!

cutting away the initial wood sides is making a massive change to the space we have in the studio allow us to look at the space with wider eyes and plan where equipment needs to go.  ripping out the wood from behind me takes away the feeling of being enclosed and allows for us to visualize a bigger longer working space that originally i had planned for the centre of the room.  i know this now to be the wrong approach.

along the wall to my side will be a long wrap around desk into the corner where all the major recording equipment will be built in and locked out of sight with just monitors along the top.  we could probably get around four/five people in comfortably at a co-working position and it would be perfect for doing hands on training in a coworking environement and allow nomad groups that want to work on a short term project room to work, blog and if they wanted to record video.  it's coming together.

i can see it much clearer now.

it's been a busy couple of weeks and the next month is going to go insane - so a catchup (i did a boo incase your interested and will attach when i get back to the desktop)

Listen!

phil campbell relief efforts
all man to the pumps on this at the moment, everyone pulling together to get media exposure and i'm working on the sponsor elements for logos for people supporting our efforts - using slidedeck to update logos easier.

the seedup money arrives
money from the contest we won has turned up which enables us to start purchasing certain elements towards the studio. we have purchased a second hand ipad1 first for vnc and live switching instead of my ipod (it's just easier to see the buttons)

a visit to the flight case makers
next week we are grabbing the train over to tamworth to meet the flight case makers for the upcoming rattlr prototype build - bear in mind we are still applying for matched funding from nottingham council for this.

second screencast keynote uploading
i did my first run of this new presentation that i just made last week (in a day!) about social engineering in the social media space - i quickly recorded a voiceover for it this morning. no polish - just direct.

my little girl is growing up
hard to believe she is four but time and tide wait for nobody right - it's all a bit insane when i think that the last four years have flown by like they have. a lot has happened - i'm putting together an 'upload a birthday greeting' for her fourth birthday which i'm going to play for her this weekend in the studio. wanna help? - click upload and upload your clip for me to use in the edit.

themes and updates oh my
super busy on this score and trying to fix some of the new theme bugs with posterous for comments and such like. will enable me to concentrate on the content side more if i know that the site is in place.

nbv business plan / profit and loss
ugh - stuff i know nothing about but as a pre-start company these things have to be done. with the jackets and the mobile command centre we have a pretty strong offering for this and next year.

and we are also developing stuff
working with my friend dmitry from russia we are pulling together some interesting things using the posterous api and some sweet jquery code for presentation of media in the hallway at lacemarket house - your gonna love it.

exciting new clients coming onboard
i'm looking forward to getting started with dave cain, carmen shaw and the new 8am friday morning breakfast club 'refreshfriday' at antenna in the coming month too. keep me on my toes!

-

as you can see, a lot on my plate and you know i like to keep busy - it seems i'm pretty set at the moment what with the recordings for fibrecamp and the little jobs on fiverr (i've earned $24 - get me!) the video side of things has really picked up.

fine tuning the experience for people using the studio space is paramount now that we have the seedups funding so expect lots of cosmetic changes to the layout over the next three months as we move towards a studio show live environment.

oh and did i mention that i've been talking to 6wunderkinder in berlin? - i'm hoping to get over berlin in june (maybe september) to help out with startupabroad (if they will have me)

pretty epic last few weeks turning into an awesome couple of months ahead right?

blogged mobile via mifi and wireless keyboard with the ipod touch 4th generation using the posterous application.

have you ever looked at a photo, watched a video/music video and imagined that media looking or sounding differently, did you ever then try and remember when you first saw it and what you were doing when you did.  how many times has this been the centrepoint to the conversations you have with the people around - and how long does it take for us to realise that it means something different to us now.

the idea behind previous_futureyou is the idea that you remember a piece of content and you mash it up.  i've been waiting to do this for about two years but just never had the starting point, for some reason i was waiting for the moment when something unique and wonderful would happen and it would stumble into it.  over the last month a certain track has done that and so that track was ripped from a mixtape and mashed together again another time into a classic of a cartoon i watched as a kid.

i'm hoping that the video is that old that it falls out of the limits of fair use and i'm not sure of the track but if it get someone complaining i'll probably host it somewhere where i can have it on rotating list of different servers.  maybe start looking at streaming bittorrent now that they are doing some neat headerless DHT shizzle.  yeah, i know what's going on people! :)

so, my first vj mashup, rough as hell is this 'sun' sample track with battle of the planets.  i remember sitting there on a saturday morning (or it could have been friday evening fish and chip night - fridays in the uk in the 80's maybe still actually was fish and chip night) watching this cartoon and wish i had all the different transports.  i never wanted to be any of the characters - i just wanted the ships.  they looked like a lot of fun.

my future me however now sees a work of timeless cartoon art and just realise how far ahead japan and other designers were back then in terms of cartoons - they were simply lightyears ahead.

i must visit japan.

wowzers! - have to say when i did see the food on the table i was thinking of what it would be like to have a similar selection from local farmers at the ark.. .

so today i'm sitting down for a taster session of all the food boards at the livingroom this morning trying out the mixed seafood platter, living room ploughmans and the deli board.  seriously yum!

the six sessions will be well fuelled with wine and food on the night and seriously - it's really good.  if your not signed up for the newsletter please do because i'll be releasing the details of the offer and training sessions within the week.

let me start with the deli board from the light and spicy hummus and salami milano coppa (very similar to what i have the greek restaurant of a friends) to nice chunks of feta with zingy tomato hits from the houmous.

both having serving dishes of balsamic vinegar and olive oil with rosemary garnish.  nice big batch of rocket in the middle - all i needed was a bench seat and be outdoors in a little outdoor place in france and i was set! :)

next up we have the living room ploughmans, another new platter here for summer - the striking thing is the ham hock terrine.  i'm not normally one for terrines because of the gelatine but this was light and fantastic in taste - also on this platter is fantastic tomatoes and a first for me - potted stilton and walnut spread.  also on this dish is a really crisp picadilly, mini scotch eggs (surprised a mini egg could taste that good!) onion chutney, welsh rarebit beignets finished off with some arrabiata sauce. i should mention that both of these platters come with some breads - both foccacia and ciabatta respectively.

the last platter is of the mixed seafood variety and has a massive spectrum of fish! - squid/mackerel fillets/ black tiger prawns (so fresh!) and the red pepper aioli and tarter sauce were perfect.  that's a real winner if you like fish like i do - a bit of everything.  a totally new one on me was the cod cheek! - never really though about the 'cheek' of a fish before.  really light and tasty thou.

Img_0248
in terms of a sessions i see the evening about pick and mix with a nice glass of wine that complements all the dishes.  we have not decided on the wine(s) yet but i'll update the google document when i have the details - it will match the food and we should have enough for everything on the evening.

we will have a version of the three platters so that everyone will be able to eat at least one of the things across all the platters.  you can download more information from this google doc here about the six sessions.

each session is £25 and comes with wine and the food platters - starting at 5:30pm for a 6pm start and wine will be served when you arrive.
