good morning!

quicklink | http://periphery.fibreca.mp

so yesterday was a really big push forward in terms of the content creation in the studio we managed to get a decent vnc connection on the ipod touch to the mac pro to be able to visually switch different effects and windows and connect a screen to the vga of the mac mini so we can preview a website that gets served up via desktop presenter behind us on the green screen - this means rapid output of screencasts with a 'talking head' can be made.

and so returns webperiphery - looking at websites and applications around the web that have just come to my attention.  we start ep o4 off again with geotoko a fantastic groupon style management tool for locations.  it allows you to make promotions and has fantastic heatmaps and stats to enable a service provider at a location to offer deals to those people that check in more easily.  this website/company is going to be huge.  i'll be adding this to one of my 'sessions' on how you can learn this at antenna soon (remember i was talking about those a few months back?)

also after chats with a @danielroseart last night i'm gonna go back to the drawing board and mess with codecs a little more to see if we can improve the quality of the video on the local encoding side because we have still not quite got that resolution sorted at 720p.  even thou we are capturing great local full frame rate when it gets compressed to a reasonable size on a big screen it can look a little blurry - we might need to start looking around for cameras.
i've still got my heart set on a 5d mk2 with a 50mm. ;)

Rightplace

just watched the social network on the plane over to the states and something jumped out at me. i was in the right space for videoblogging in 2005 but not that wise enough to have launched an epic video service that bought those guys together - fast forward 2011 and that idea has progressed into local fibrecamp studios and i need develop the idea while i'm here in southby.

anybody else noticed in social network the single tone when really epic points happen. i've heard that same tone in foundation - the new show that kevin rose makes, maybe it's a head tip in marks general direction.

i wonder if kevin feels like he should have built something epic like facebook instead of digg - not that digg is not epic but it had it's moment and i think he should move onto something new personally.

so halfway over the atlantic now and looking forward to being in another moment in my life. not getting away, not escaping but going to see a bunch of friends - totally looking forward to southby this year.

it's gonna be epic. and it might be the last one i come to in a while if the ark project goes in the right direction. less travelling, lots of tech building and learning for all things green and to start writing that book.

back to the film. ..

*update* - heard news kevin left digg. . .

'put stuff where the eyeballs are'
The-groups
ok, you hate facebook.  i get it.

but a lot of people still use it - a lot for chat and a lot to be nosey to see if someone is connected to someone and what they might be putting on each others facebook walls. personally i have no time for that stuff anymore and actually found myself turning into a spy sometime back leading to annoyance and frustration - pointless exercise, so much better things to do in life! :)

anyway, back to the point - group.

we have created a fibrecamp studio group for the members, users and clients of the studio so we can post any of the content that is coming out of the studio and when we have new devices/elements or upgrades put in place.  just a lot nicer stream to be able to get to stuff about the studio instead of sifting through lots of stuff.

it's a private/members group so if your using the studio and your not on the list yet do let me know! :)
