initial impression of the prepaid mastercard - mygocard.co.uk

received my prepaid mastercard this morning from http://www.mygocard.co.uk

activation of the card was straight forward over the phone and add funds to the card via a paypoint was very simple and straight forward. within ten minute i was setup in a local cybercafe and logged into the admin panel at mygocard and the money was showing up in the account. i set about to re-order some web services i had wanted to get renewed for a long time and found the process straight forward and simple. i was very impressed with the speed of updating of the statement view and the list of the charges on the statement.

Obviously the charges are a major problem on this card right now for me to really suggest it to anyone else but i guess for the protection, fraud and the fact that you do not have it linked to an address they company has to make some money somewhere. I just wish the charges were a lot less than they are. The additional features like the sms balance and sending money to another card are nice features and some of the main reasons to get the card - i hope i can get to work with them as a partner to develop those sms/topup services. I can see real potential in that feature set.

Remember thou, this is a mastercard that you can topup yourself at a post office or anywhere that has a paypoint and it is not linked to an address. no statements through the post, a decent online admin and the ability to send money via sms from one card to another. It certainly fits a requirement that i need right now. I'm looking forward to testing out the o2 money card in the coming week as well and will look at the charges for comparison.

Overall i'm quite happy with it so far.

This looks pretty good, I'd be interested in your experiences of other cards too. How does it work when the supplier wants an address for authentication (or delivery?) for example my Three mobile internet top-up wouldn't go through the other day due to an address issue.

I can imagine cards like this being used for purchases of Amazon servers by the hour for vpn's and mobile broadband. I guess you can use this with iTunes and the App store too?

it's a standard mastercard so it works anywhere mastercard is accepted. of course i had to give them an address to send the card too. but it's not then 'tied' to my address. i simply gave them name and phone number. i guess i could have it posted to a post office or something for delivery.

As for address for authentication i did today put in my home address but i'm pretty sure it's not tied to 'checking' - i should try that with other sites i guess.

I'm really excited to play with the sending money via sms between cards myself. ;)
