once again into the breech this year with a different 'ontheground' team in the shape of myself and Nat (
@aquilatv) Higginbottom (
@exsanguinator) filming in and around the conference centre. For the last three years i have made the pilgrimage to the mecca that is sxsw in austin, texas with a number of people and have put faces to names that were virtual for a long time. I also treat sxsw as a bit of a re-energizing period and it is good to network with people and see what projects they are working on over the coming year.
a side from the party atmosphere at southby that seems to kick into life after 5pm the place becomes a realtime second life with familiar twitter avatars filling the streets. sixth street is often very busy at night as it takes on a very carnival/festival atmosphere - some great film/footage can be grabbed here and i remember some fantastic food places along that road.
We have a working brief (the heart of england inward investment team) this year which is awesome because i get to work with a great cameraman and will have plenty of opportunity to learn things that nat does 'ontheground' with setting up shots, audio and the process that goes along with that - looking forward to doing interviews on the stand too and will give me the focus i need as i ramp up media output and put together the web streaming studio in nottingham.
A whole bunch of people from the west midlands area are going out to sxsw - i have put together (with help!) a small list of people that will be out there - i hope i get to interview a bunch of them this year instead of blasting past them in the hallways.. .
