mobile kit, cameras & free trial software for videobloggers

so i’m in the marketplace again to upgrade my canon ixus 200IS which has been a great little 720p HD camera but getting a little bit clunky recently because it has a little dent on the lens (my fault) which is showing up in video.
as part of the new digital brand advocacy (cmp.ly) i’m very keen to get back to my videoblogging roots and look at some kit that would add a lift to my video when i’m mobile and ‘ontheground’ at conferences and travelling to events.
i’m really interested in the pico flex dolly at the moment because of the price and it would really go nicely with the new canon s100 which at £450 ish is quite a chunk of change but a nice point and shoot that has a nice f2.0 lens, shoots in raw and has the new digic5 processor and can shoot 1080 video. if your looking for a cheaper option but still good quality 720p footage you might want to take a look at the canon ixus 200 hs at £159.
i could make some nice new videoblogs with either those pocket point and shoot cameras as part of my ammobox project kit
i’m also digging these cineskate designs because they use tripods from joby which are a particular favorite of mine as they last really well.
another interesting camera i have been looking at for some time is the gopro hd hero and after finding this video on youtube about using live monitoring mode and a snap on lcdvf viewer screen it got me thinking about multi switching front and back cameras that could be mounted somehow on a future nomad jacket like we are developing. it certainly opens up possibilties – especially about feeding those live monitoring feeds into a macbook air in a rucksack with backup power units.
another thing is i should mention is that final cut pro x (yes i know the oldschool final cut users are not liking it much) has a 30 day trial now (normally it’s £200 to buy) – one of the features that i really like that would make it worth the £200 along is the ability to sync externally recorded audio from another device to video automatically. i love that.
must get my hands on a new windscreen cover for the new zoom h1 recorder. it’s a very capable and reasonably priced audio recorder that can make all the different to the audio on your videos. most pocket size cameras have really poor audio quality in comparison. i’ve been really impressed with the audio i have managed to capture with the zoom h1 so far.
